About

In this module of the Junior Penetration Tester learning path, you move from enumeration to exploitation on core network services. Network & Infrastructure Pentesting is the core of the offensive security profession; this unit elevates you from being a scanner to being a practitioner by forcing you to turn findings into real, impactful compromises. While earlier modules focused on discovery and mapping, identifying exposed services, uncovering versions, and gathering evidence, Network & Infrastructure Pentesting: Part 1 introduces the exploitation of critical network-level services and foundational infrastructure: DNS, LDAP, SMB, FTP, and SMTP, plus lateral pivot to the member host. Extended services (SNMP, NFS, SQL, SSH, VNC, WebDAV, print) are covered in Network & Infrastructure Pentesting: Part 2. You will learn to abuse exposed services, harvest credentials, and chain misconfigurations together. Rather than spreading across every possible protocol, this module tightly focuses your efforts on turning misconfigured infrastructure, such as directory, mail, and file services, into actionable exploits. Upon completion of the module, students will be able to: • Abuse common network-service misconfigurations (for example anonymous access, weak or leaked credentials) in a controlled lab. • Chain findings from one protocol into another (for example pivoting data recovered from mail or SMB into directory access). • Execute controlled exploitation workflows (including lab-safe use of known vulnerable builds such as vsftpd 2.3.4). • Use recovered credentials to attempt lateral access to the member host. • Relate each compromise to realistic detection (evidence in logs/SIEM) and hardening guidance for blue teams.
